What to see and do by motorhome in Gironde?
Gironde is renowned for its long sandy beaches. Hundreds of kilometers of coastline face the Atlantic Ocean. A gigantic playground for young and old! Enjoy an invigorating swim. Spending the day at the beach is also a great way to spend time with your family. On the program: jump into the waves, build sand castles to be washed away by the tide, picnic in the shade of the pine forest.
Younger children can enjoy a more leisurely swim in the large lakes that stretch along the coastline of the Côte d’Argent. With little current, a gentle slope and more shade than by the sea, you’ll be able to relax with your toddlers. Lac d’Hourtin is the largest freshwater lake in France. You can also take part in water sports such as paddling, kayaking, sailing or pedal-boating. If you’ve brought an inflatable canoe in the boot of your motorhome or on the roof rack of your van, now’s the time to get it out!

When you’re in Hourtin, you’re also in the Parc Naturel Régional du Médoc. Exploring this area, at the wheel of your motorhome in Gironde, means making unexpected discoveries, combining the exploration of little-known places with world-renowned territories. Here are a few ideas to add to your itinerary:
- The wine route through the prestigious Médoc vineyards and its various appellations (Saint-Estèphe, Moulis, Pauillac, etc.);
- A walk along the left bank of theGironde estuary to Le Verdon-sur-Mer and a visit to the Cordouan lighthouse, a UNESCO World Heritage site;
- A hike or bike ride on flat or dune terrain through the various nature reserves in the area.
After a stopover in Hourtin, don’t forget to head for the other side of the estuary to visit the Blaye citadel. To do so, take the ferry at Lamarque. The crossing offers magnificent panoramic views.

Our Côte d’Argent campsite welcomes you between Hourtin’s central beach and the lake. Before taking a break at our 5-star establishment, you’ll probably make several stops along the way. Depending on your tourist interests, here are a few places to stop:
- Blaye, with its well-equipped motorhome park just a stone’s throw from the citadel.
- Lamarque, on the other side of the estuary. Before or after taking the ferry, a municipal area welcomes you for the night near the pier.
- At a Médoc winegrower who welcomes motorhome owners as part of France Passion.
- Hourtin Port, motorhome park near the lake, but further from the ocean.
