From the Côte d’Argent campsite in Hourtin-Plage, we invite you to discover the Medoc vineyards and the Gironde.
About an hour’s drive from the Côte d’Argent campsite in Hourtin-Plage, the Médoc vineyards stretch along the Gironde estuary, 80 kilometers north of Ludon-Médoc.
The Médoc vineyards in Gironde are renowned for their complex, high-quality wines and boast some sixty crus. It comprises two AOCs: AOC Médoc for the part of the vineyard north of Saint-Estèphe, and AOC Haut-Médoc for the part to the south. The Médoc vineyards can be explored by following the Médoc Wine Route, a tourist itinerary that mainly takes the D2 road from Bordeaux, in the direction of Pauillac. This route can be explored by bike or car.
The châteaux of the Médoc open their doors to visitors for tours of their cellars and estates, and for tastings of their vintages. Some are established in true châteaux, such as the magnificent Château d’Agassac in Ludon-Médoc, and others in sumptuous residences, such as Château Margaux.
As you travel through the Médoc vineyards, you can visit small estates and prestigious houses such as Château Mouton Rothschild, Château Lafite-Rothschild and Château Latour. In Saint-Estèphe, the Maison du Vin will also enable you to refine your knowledge of the Médoc vineyards in Gironde and find new ideas for visits.
From the Côte d’Argent campsite in Hourtin-Plage, you can explore the region. There’s no shortage of tourist attractions, starting with Lamarque, in the heart of the Médoc vineyards. You can visit the château and take part in a wine tasting. From the port of Lamarque, you can also take a cruise on the estuary. A little further north, don’t miss the Cordouan lighthouse, guardian of the estuary and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A visit to Bordeaux is a must. With its rich historical heritage, temporary and permanent exhibitions, museums, shopping streets, markets and restaurants, you’ll be spoilt for choice! You can also stroll along the quays of the Garonne or cool off on the water mirror at Place de la Bourse.
