Carcans

In the town center, enter the church of Saint-Martin, a must for pilgrims on the Compostelle pilgrimage route, and home to a statue of Santiago de Compostela.
Cycling: enjoy 120 km of cycle paths through pine forests and along the coast. You can reach the lake, the ocean and the city center in complete peace and quiet.
Water sports on the lake and at the beach: surf the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, try your hand at water-skiing or pedal-boating on the beach at Bombannes, or try parasailing at Maubuisson.
Near Carcans, theHourtin national nature reserve is home to exceptional flora and fauna. As you stroll along, you’ll discover the dunes, marshes and lake of this 2150-hectare territory. You can venture out on foot or by bike, or even on horseback.
The Blaye citadel, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a military complex dating back to the XVIIᵉ century. Built on a rocky promontory, it offers a magnificent view over the Gironde estuary. Come and meet the craftsmen and shopkeepers who keep the streets alive. Guided tours are available to discover all the citadel’s secrets.
Wine lovers or not, take the road to Saint-Estèphe and its magnificent châteaux. The path leading to this village is an invitation to travel, between vineyards and 19th-century wineries. During your visit, take part in a wine tasting at one of the many châteaux and explore the town’s renowned architectural heritage, such as the listed church of Saint-Estèphe.
Between the ocean and the Arcachon Basin, this peninsula of ten villages is a veritable natural paradise. During your visit, climb the Cap Ferret lighthouse for a breathtaking panorama, or take a boat out to Bird Island!
