The Gironde department, and its river of the same name, invite you and your family to enjoy some fine food and sightseeing. Between land and ocean, the Gironde seduces all its visitors with the diversity of its landscapes and its authenticity.
The choice of family activities in Gironde is vast. Water activities to keep you cool, leisure parks to keep you entertained, and beautiful walks in the pretty towns of Gironde. One thing’s for sure: you won’t notice the passage of time during your camping vacation in Gironde!
With young children, choose activities on Lac d’Hourtin (France’s largest natural freshwater lake) or Lacanau. Because the ocean is full of beautiful, but often powerful waves.
Depending on your preferences, you can go canoeing or kayaking, or try your hand at a towed buoy – all great family fun!
But there are other possibilities too: surfing, wakeboarding, flyboarding, windsurfing, kitesurfing, water skiing, jet-skiing… the list goes on! For a more leisurely activity on the water, you can take a trip on a river cruise boat to discover the Gironde estuary. A lovely walk to share with the whole family.
Once again, you’re in for a treat in Gironde, with its many leisure parks. Close to the ocean,AquaSpeed in Hourtin is an innovative and daring park. You can also go karting in the water. Original and very tempting, isn’t it? Even more so when it’s done quietly and ecologically.

Nearby, the children’s island will delight your little ones. Discover this truly extraordinary island, entirely pedestrianized, with plenty of games for children (playgrounds, bouncy castles, slides, etc.) and picnic tables, in a very pleasant setting.
The Bassin d’Arcachon zoo is also well worth a visit. One of the largest zoos in France, it is home to over 1,000 animals, spread over 22 hectares of forest and 4 kilometers of pathways. A great way to spend family time in a shady park.
In addition to the zoo, Arcachon is well worth a visit. You can admire the famous winter town with its magnificent villas and unique architecture. Pauillac, nearHourtin, is a charming town well worth a visit. Its marina is located on the Gironde estuary. From here, you can enjoy guided cruises along the estuary and around the islands. Whether you’re visiting châteaux, museums or wine-lovers, you’ll find plenty to do in Pauillac, as in many other parts of the Gironde.
Of course, it’s impossible to talk about Gironde without mentioning Bordeaux. The “sleeping beauty”, as the city was once known, has now woken up… It boasts remarkable Renaissance monuments, a water mirror the only one of its kind in the world, and the longest shopping avenue (rue Sainte-Catherine) in Europe.
